EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY

As an educational leader, I believe in cultivating a highly transparent, collaborative, and dynamic learning environment where students, faculty, and staff feel empowered to thrive. Throughout my career, I've fostered this philosophy by sharing everything I can, within reason, with my constituents.  As interim provost, I prioritized initiatives that promoted interdepartmental collaboration, such as co-curricular opportunities, increasing persistence, and first-year students' success.  Throughout my leadership tenure, I’ve empowered my leaders to own their areas of responsibility by building their plans and aligning them with the university.  Additionally, I have championed faculty development programs that nurture innovative pedagogy and leadership potential, ultimately fostering a learning community that is responsive to the needs of all its members and well-positioned for success in the 21st century.

RESEARCH/PUBLICATION EXPERIENCE

Doctoral research published April 2012. Title: “Exploration of Organizational Sustainability and Employee Job Satisfaction.” The research used a non-experimental case study design to explore the expressed reasons for voluntarily leaving an organization during a time in history when the unemployment rate was exceptionally high (2007). The research provides managers and leaders with an understanding of why their employees might be looking to move on and what they can do to minimize voluntary turnover and increase organizational sustainability. Primary finding was how the majority of employees chose to leave their organization voluntarily because of their manager and not because of their compensation.

Unpublished internal research project October 2019. Title “What matters to students once they chose a Business School.” While this has not been permitted to be published external to the University, the research has followed traditional research protocols.  The purpose of this research is to understand what students are concerned with once they have entered a business program at the University.  The intent is to use the data to inform decisions and resource allocation when making changes within the business school.

Unpublished internal research project November 2017. Title “An understanding of instructor engagement that leads to increasing student success in the classroom.”  While this was not permitted to be published external to the University, the research did follow traditional research protocols. The research provides faculty at the University with an understanding of behaviors necessary to keep students engaged in an online learning environment.

Unpublished Internal research project April 2016. Title: “Using x-bar and R-charts to visualize assessment data in order to drive student success with curriculum.”  While this was not permitted to be published external to the University the research did follow traditional research protocols. The research provides faculty and administration with an understanding of how to incorporate Total Quality Management (TQM) statistics to visualize assessment data to drive curriculum and increase student success.
